Palm Springs, CAL. It looked like Grace Park
was headed for a wire-to wire victory at the Samsung World Championship at
Bighorn, but Annika Sorenstam chipped for eagle on the 15th and birdied the
17th to take the lead en route to securing her fourth Samsung.
The birdie at the final round 17th gave Sorenstam her
first lead in the tournament, leaving Park, who had led by three at the 12th,
no time to respond. Annika's five-under 67 was the best score in the final
round among the 20 player field, which included seven South Korean
players.
Park's effort to take the Korean company's trophy derailed
on the 15th when under pressure from Sorenstam, she laid up leaving a bad
angle at the green. Her pitch shot left her ten feet away and she made par.
Meanwhile, Sorenstam chipped in for eagle on the same hole to jump into
co-leadership with Park.
Sorenstam's aggressive play seemed to unnerve her opponent,
and Park went +2 on the final holes while Sorenstam birdied the 17th and
win by three shots.
