SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Washington women's soccer team continued its early-season roll, ending non-conference play with a 1-0 win at San Diego State. In piling up a 9-1 record, the Huskies have ascended to the top of the PAC-10 and fourth in the NCAA Coaches' Poll. The young Husky team was not ranked in the preseason polling.

The Huskies got the pollsters' attention with three wins in a row against Top-20 teams to start the season, beating (9)Penn State, (18)Ohio State and (8)Tennessee. Continuing its roll with shutouts against (6)Portland and Portland State, the Dogs suffered its only loss against the University of San Diego at the end of the long road trip.

Key to the Huskies' early-season run was the performance of 2003 PAC-10 Co-Player of the Year Tina Frimpong , who leads the Huskies with five goals and 11 points thru the SDSU game. She already owns the UW record for game-winning goals and is threatening to break the career goal scoring record currently being held by UW Assistant Coach Tami Bennett.

Coming on strong is Kim Taylor, who netted the only goal in the 1-0 win over the Aztecs Oct. 3. All three of her goals this season have been game-winners. Nikki Gamble, with 4 goals so far, set up most of Taylor's game winners, and scored the only goal in the loss to USD.

Entering conference play, the Huskies will be tested against (7)UCLA and (13) California, which also has lost only one game so far.
