Michelle Akers Photo (c) Photosport.com Michelle Akers is the Pele of women's soccer, scoring the first-ever goal in the Women's National team program in 1985.

She was with the National Team every step of the way, playing in the first-ever Women's World Cup in 1991, scoring 10 goals in the tournament.

She retired from the national team in 2000 following the USA-Russia game in Annapolis. However, she has not ruled out playing in the newly-formed women's professional league.
